The 2nd Hand Rose Challenge was a big success. Thank you Muriel, Annette, and Ann for all the hard work getting it organized. Thank you to all the creative quilters who entered really great items for us to enjoy. The potluck dinner was wonderful. I certainly think we quilters do know how to cook when the time calls for it. I enjoyed seeing all of the entries and watching the awards. Thank you to Becky, Ann, and Annette for assembling the embroidered awards which were handed out by the guest judge, Kathy Lee Smith. The photos will be sent to our website for publishing as soon as I can retrieve them from my husband’s camera.
Long Beach Quilt International was wonderful. However, I was disappointed at the hidden corner location that was given to us to sell Opportunity Quilt Tickets. Many guild members attending just couldn’t find us! We still made $99.00, and every little bit helps. Thank you to Annette and Muriel for selling tickets all day Friday. We had over 20 hours donated by guild members sitting and sewing at the Ethiopia Quilt Booth. Thank you to all who donated time: Louise J, Marilyn B, Angie F, Annetete C, Muriel C, Karin C, Denise H, Donna H, Dolly M, Carol J, and Sheila P. It actually was fun sewing on the new Janome 6600’s that were set up. That is a great machine.
This past weekend was the Quilt Daze II at Yorba Linda. Thank you again to Annette, Ann, Muriel and Midge for holding down the fort at our booth and selling tickets. Again, there wasn’t a lot of money made, but we did hand out a lot of flyers for the Harvest Festival and Sewing Room Tour in October.
At the Board meeting we discussed the plan to add two additional Vice President Officers to help next year: Workshops and Fund Raiser. Midge is looking into the Standing Rules and other guidelines so that this is done properly and according to the Rule of Law for our Guild. Also, the slate of officer’s is going to be published so that we can follow the correct way of electing our 2009 Officers. Thank you, Midge.
Also, a big thank you to Judith Cook for all she has done in organizing the Harvest Festival and printing the tickets which will be handed out at the next meeting. Be thinking of who you can invite. We would suggest that each member sell two tickets as a minimum. The tickets are $20.00 and besides the great home tour, you will enjoy a wonderful soup and salad luncheon and Holiday Boutique.
Remember that Martha Burmeister is out of town for 2 months. There is no BOM for August or September. So please spend your time making apple blocks for Francine’s Swap a Block. That is make 6 blocks to swap and bring them to the next meeting.
At the last meeting three new members joined our Guild. Thank you for making them feel welcome.
Please remember to get in your membership application and check to Dolly Molina. We are going to have a great year 2008-2009. You are important and we miss you when we do not see you at our meetings.
Happy quilting! Karin Crawford, President
