It's hard to believe we are coming to the end of summer! But as I look to the end of August and the upcoming fall, I can only see the challenges represented by our Charity SEW IN and the OCTOBER FUNDRAISER. I am sure that by now all of you know we are holding a quilt exhibit, boutique and soup/salad buffet. It would mean a great deal to me if every member of the guild would participate in this event. Each of you should select your best quilt (or two) to hang in the exhibit. Even if you have given it away, try to borrow it back for the occasion. You can explain to the owner that you want to show “their quilt” in this special exhibit.
The boutique is an opportunity for all of us to explore creative crafts other than quilting. You know that there is something that caught your eye in one of the quilting or craft magazines that you have been just dying to make. Well, now you have a good reason. Go ahead and make that purse, scarf, or ??? and contribute it to the boutique. I am using a pattern drafted by Annette, it is a holder in which you can place unfinished blocks and then roll them up to transport or store them until your next chance to sew.
Which also brings into play the other challenge which occurs at this month's guild meeting. The annual Charity Sew In. This is the guild's members chance to participate in a charitable sew in while experiencing the good conversation and fun that comes with team/group participation along with the challenge to win a couple of door prizes. If you haven't signed up yet, please see Midge's message in the newsletter.
Usually we think in terms of what the guild has to offer us… lectures, workshops, like-minded friends, etc. Please, this time think in terms of what you can do for others and the guild. (Thanks are offered to JFK for my paraphrasing). Let's make these events wildly successful!
So gird up your loins girls and let's a get a cracking powering up those machines…
Your President, Muriel
